Press release: 10/2019

Milan, 8th July 2019 – Great success for the first edition of the “Grand Road Venezia-Montecarlo”: the experimental race, with a totally innovative format and an exquisitely chic allure, reserved to modern supercars of all brands built between 1982 and 2019. Organized with the usual passion and experience by the Scuderia Mantova Corse, the Grand Road intends to become over time the reference point for the large network of GT cars enthusiasts, creating at the same time a social occasion with a high convivial, touristic and sporting value.

1000 km traveled in 3 days, 5-star hospitality, a breathtaking route between the lakes of northern Italy and the Italian-French Alps: these are the ingredients that made this race unique and unforgettable.

An event also rich in adrenaline experiences: the crews had the unique opportunity to test the performance of their "bolides" in two symbolic places of motorsport: the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, the temple of speed par excellence, and the FCA Proving Ground within the Balocco Circuit (VC).
From the sporting point of view, the challenging, long and articulated route put the competitors at test. Locations of incomparable charm and beauty have been touched, combining regularity with the desire to drive. A very appealing itinerary that has allowed the participants to experience the event within a frame of healthy competition, also rediscovering a different way of sharing the same passion.

On the first day of the race, the crews drove from Venice to Como, climbing up the valleys of Trentino and crossing the Adamello Natural Park and the Tonale Pass, then descending on the shores of the enchanting Lake Como. The lake landscape was at the center of the second stage: after the adrenaline rush brought by the speed tests on the track of the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, the supercars coasted the shores of Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta and then faced the timed tests on Balocco's FCA track. A day dedicated to the automotive passion, that culminated with the arrival at the Lingotto complex in Turin, and with a special soirée at the Automobile Museum. The suggestive Col de La Lombarde has been the protagonist of the third and most decisive stage of the race, being the background for the spectacular arrival of the cars, between two snow walls, at an altitude of 2350 meters. After crossing the French border, the cars continued towards the Principality of Monaco, for the final Gala dinner.

The crew composed by Davide and Matteo Penitenti on a Mercedes-Benz AMG GTR triumphed in this first edition, followed by Orazio Rigo and Anastasia Zanoncelli on a Porsche 911, and by Ermanno De Angelis and Annunziata Del Gaudio on an Alpine A110. Famous figures of the Italian regularity (such as Giordano Mozzi on a Ferrari 458 Spyder, and Giuliano Canè on a Porsche 930 Turbo) were also present, together with experienced drivers like Gianmaria Gabbiani, on a Maserati Ghibli.

“We are particularly satisfied by the success of this first edition of the Grand Road, an event in which we believed since the first day. It gave to owners of modern supercars the opportunity to enjoy the potential and comfort of their cars and, at the same time, the beauties of the Italian territory, all in a setting of high level hospitality”- commented the creators of the Grand Road: Claudio Rossi, Luca Bergamaschi and Marco Marani. “We are already working on the 2020 edition, that will be rich of news, to surprise the participants and the public”.

A success made possible thanks to the contribution of Alfa Romeo and Editoriale Domus, with its media products Quattroruote, Ruoteclassiche, Youngtimer and Top Gear.
