THE GRAND ROAD 2019 VENEZIA – MONTECARLO MAKES ITS DEBUT
03/06/2019
Press release: 2/2019
.
6th of March 2019
– The Grand Road Venezia – Montecarlo is warming up its engines to make its first appearance in the international automotive stage. The new touristic regularity event for Supercars is scheduled from May, the 30th, to June, the 2nd. The format of the event is innovative and glamor. An exciting journey of 1000 km between Venice and Montecarlo, will cross a long imaginary panoramic bridge between the Adriatic Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, including places of incomparable beauty and exclusive locations full of charm.
The event, reserved to modern Supercars built between 1991 and 2019, plus to an “Historic Group” of maximum 35 Supercars built between 1982 and 1990, has been conceived by the Scuderia Mantova Corse, the same Organizer of Gran Premio Nuvolari. The Grand Road Venezia – Montecarlo combines two “souls”: the touristic one and the sportive one - regularity. The latter is very appealing to those who are not familiar with car races but who, nonetheless, want to enjoy the pleasure of driving their Supercar, in a context in which competition is less relevant than the touristic/cultural aspect.
The race will start on Thursday, May, the 30th in Venice, where the participating crews will be engaged in the technical and sports checks, and then in the inaugural evening in the wonderful setting of the Hilton Hotel Molino Stucky.
The following day, Friday, May, the 31st , the event will start: the crews will leave from Venice, the “Serenissima” to get to Como. A first challenging section of 410 km between the Alps and the lakes of northern Italy, with an intermediate break for lunch at Castel Ivano in Trento. The cars will then continue towards the Adamello Natural Park, the Tonale Pass and arrive in the picturesque setting of Lake Como for the evening at the panoramic terrace of the Hilton Como Lake.
On Saturday, June, the 1st, the cars will face the second stage: 310 km between Como and Turin. Participants will compete on the track of the Autodromo di Monza, the "Temple of Speed", where they will be able to test their driving skills and to examine the performance of their Supercars. The cars will then continue towards Lake Maggiore, where they will stop for the lunch break in the magnificent liberty-style frame of the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées. The event will continue on the shores of Lake Orta to arrive then in Turin, where an emotional evening dedicated to the automotive passion will be organized. The setting will be the “Piazza” of the Automobile Museum (an indoor court covered in the heart of the Museum, designed by the architect Cino Zucchi).
On the last day of the race, Sunday, June, the 2nd, the journey will develop between Turin and Montecarlo, along a 280 km route that follows the Piedmont Prealps. The intermediate break will be in Vinadio, at the Forte Albertino, one of the most significant examples of the nineteenth-century military architecture. The crews will then trespass to France, through the Col de la Lombarde and the Col de Turini, a famous mountain pass that, among other facts, has been the set of the film noir "Beyond the law" interpreted by Alain Delon.
The three days event will finish in the afternoon, with the arrival of the crews in Montecarlo, in the prestigious and charming location of Place du Casino. The Gala Dinner will take place in the exclusive Salon sur Mer of the Fairmont Hotel, during which the Awards Ceremony will be held, with important acknowledgements to participants.
The registration requests have to be filled exclusively on the website: www.grandroad.it. It will be possible to enrol to the event until May, the 15th.
